Giuseppina’s story (told with help from her daughter Rita): I immigrated from Yugoslavia back in 1960 with my husband, his family and our infant son. We came to Toronto, we had two more children, another boy and then a little girl. We then moved to Windsor so my husband could work with his brother.
In 1966, we were in a tragic car accident, someone hit us head-on on a very foggy morning. My 6 year old son and brother-in-law was killed in the accident. I had many injuries, my left side was paralyzed, I was in a coma and had a brain injury not allowing me to fully take care of myself. A few years after recovering from the accident I became a resident of Cheshire House. This has become my home for almost 49 years. Cheshire House has allowed me to be independent and as I’m aging they have accommodated my needs and allowed me to stay in my home.
